Who We Are

In December of 1960, John Turner purchased two parcels of land in Ocean View that totaled 27 acres. In 1961, Ocean View Campground was opened with 35 campsites and one restroom that had outside showers and a laundry tub for cleaning clothes!

We opened our first office in 1963. The first office was situated where the previous office was. The fact is, the first office and the previous office were the same office. Over the years we would add on to this structure or modify it.

The original office also served as a residence. It had two small bedrooms, a bathroom, a small kitchen, and a living area. The lobby was, shall we say, external. A shutter was opened to reveal the check in window when the ‘office’ was open.

In 1965, OVR’s 5th season, John Turner and his OVR crew built us the “new” office. An addition was added to the existing building which allowed for a store and a larger check in area.

In 1969, OVR’s 9th season, the office & store were again expanded and a snack bar was added.

The initial facelift was done in 1985, our 25th season. We modified the roof as part of a full exterior update and we did some nice landscaping to complete the fresh look.

For 2020, OVR’s 60th season, the Turner family is proud to reveal and share it’s latest vision. The new office complex features a stunning lobby, a state of the art office, a 4800 square foot breathtaking camp store, and a brand new cafe which has a huge outside eating area in addition to indoor seating. In all, it’s about 11,000 square feet of interior space on the ground level plus over 200’ of wraparound porch on the exterior. The location of what was the old office is now the courtyard) as well as the new tram station! OVR’s come a long way - Happy 60th!
